MARKET BASICS

Moneylines, spreads, totals, and props

A market asks a specific question about an event. Understanding that question comes before interpreting its price.

Moneylines ask about the winner

A moneyline typically concerns which side wins under a defined time and settlement rule. A two-way market and a three-way market with a draw are different questions. Do not assume regulation time and overtime are treated identically.

Spreads add an adjustment

A point spread applies a stated adjustment before comparing the sides. A favorite winning the game does not automatically mean it covers a negative spread. Whole-number lines can land exactly on the result; the operator’s push rules determine the treatment.

Totals and props narrow the question

A total compares a defined combined statistic with a line. A prop focuses on a specific outcome or participant statistic. Read the period, player-participation requirements, overtime treatment, and official statistics source.

Price is not a prediction guarantee

Odds express a price or potential return under the product’s rules. Their implied probability is a mathematical conversion, not proof of an event’s actual chance. Try the odds lab using practice units, and use the settlement lab to see how the market question changes a result.
